as a chinese myself, i find it a disgrace that there are people who need to find out how and where to learn his or her own ancestral tongue....
and if u r not a chinese, admirable for u to take on one of the world's oldest and erudite language ...
@TehJarVu: ok I see
@Fcukpap: Im not chinese, I like to learn other language =)
ok guys, thank for the support, but the important thing is: where to learn and how much for a course =D, I got free time, so dont want to waste it =D
Why not find a mandarin speaking buddy?
i thought i saw SIM is offering some good courses on chinese....
forget about the private schools....
anyway, as with any other languages....u would need to learn, talk, read, write, sleep and dream with it to become conversant....
@Darkness_hacker99: well, I want to know how to write too =D, heard that learn to speak is easier, but learn only speaking just like half way of learning =D, so I decide learn everything about it

guys, please =( anyone knows good place to study ?
Let's not make fun of Tony Tan, mandarin is alien language to peranakans.
These guys all mandarin standard like fuck, if Lim Chin Siong's plan to promote mandarin and other local languages succeeded in 1960s, for sure their influence will be weakened.
FOR the Babas, the significance of the new policy was that they no longer had the option to elect Malay as a second school language, but were obliged to study Mandarin, a language which many of them regarded as rather alien.
"My brother thinks the Baba culture is chaotic... it is completely out of touch. You are a Chinese living in a community of Chinese, so how to survive?

It is now conceded that the left wing trade unions under Lim Chin Siong, took a decision early on in support of Malay as the national language and at the same time arguing for a reduction in the role of the English language and the elevation of the languages of the local communities, principally Chinese and Tamil. Lim’s role in this has been acknowledged by Usman and Samad Ismail and others.

But as usual, making english as dominant was not enough for Lee Kuan Yew, his extremism dictated the annihilation of all chinese schools in Singapore.
Even I won't destroy all the english schools, I will still leave a few open for the peranakans and eurasians.
