I reiterate : this is an unconfirmed rumour, and there's no official word (thing is, there may never be an official word, even if this is implemented) or statement from MOE on this.
Posted on another Singapore forum :
I did, however, hear from a couple of educator friends that MOE's going to start limiting the amount of A's handed out. Might start going down soon. Amount of A's given out during A levels.
If this is implemented, it *could* take the form of reducing the % of students getting 'A' grades on the bell-curve, from the current top 20% or so of the student cohort, to say only the top 10% or so.
My concern is, whenever authorities implement something to limit the rich and the upper class, invariably it's the middle-class and the poor who suffer more.
Correct but your view of class strata is mistaken.
There is the very small upper class and small class of poor.
Many Singaporeans think we have a big middle class, but they are actually a big working class who have enough to eat but are slave to their jobs.
The middle class is small and made of professionals who have risen from the working class, most often when their childen get good jobs. As our cost of living and housing get unaffordable, fewer people will climb out of the working class and some middle class will fall back in.
Hi,
Regardless, educators must continue to instil a learning passion in students so that they do their best beyond mere grades :) Thanks.

hmm..it may be fairer to poly ppl though.... :/ ...this is harsh
Education is much more than getting A in examinations.
