Looking for assistance on the mathematics problem sum for P6

  Mona went shopping with a sum of money.She spent 50% of it on a crystal vase and 20% of the remainder on a hat.She had $640 left. a)What percentage of the money was spent on the hat? b)What percentage of the money was left? c)How much money did Mona bring on her shopping spree? Appreciate if anyone could help me solve this problem sum problem. If possible, can the solution be shown step by step with the answer.

  OK sup man. 50% is spent on the crystal vase, leaving with 50%. SO 20% of the remaining money is spent on a hat, leaving $640 (80%). 

  so for part a, they are asking the percentage of the original sum spent on the hat. SO $640/8=$80 (10%).  then 80 multiply by 2 = 160$. DONE.

  for part b, the percentage of money left would be 80 multiply by 10 would be 800$ (50% of the ORIGINAL SUM). so then you multiply by 2 to get the original sum (1600$). therefore, 640/1600 multiply by 100 = 40%.

  hat: 20% of 50% = 10%
  
  left: 80% of 50% = 40%
  
  40% => $640
  100% => 640/40 x 100 = $1600

  Thanks OJP,.. but for part a, you indicated $640/8=$80 (10%).. how do you derived getting the 8 ?
