Fun Question to try
(1) If 27x + 28y + 29z = 363, find the value of 10(x+y+z).
(2) If a(b+c) = 359, find the value of a + b + c.
These questions are good for students to think out of the box when they attempt to solve these questions.
For question 2,
If a(b+c) = 359, find the value of a + b + c.
A typical Sec 1 student will try to solve for a, b and c first and next he or she will substitute the values of a, b and c to get the value of a+b+c.
However, this approach will not work for this question.
The student needs to think out of the box.
The student needs to note that 359 is a prime number ie 359 = 1 x 359
So,
A(b+c)=359
1(359)=359
Hence,
A + (b + c)
=1 + 359
=360
