Hi all, im new here :). i dont know if this is the right place to post this but i'll do it anyway ^^.
im sec 4 this year. In sec 3 i used to be holding triple sciences. however not long after, i realised i could not cope well :( By sec 4, i dropped my pure bio. despite that, i realised things still aint going rite... my grades was horrendous. literally terrifying. most probably due to the fact that im a pretty lazy person. My chem and amath was very very weak. i really really dont want to retain, nither do badly for my o's. but is it too late now that i wanna improve? i really dont want to dissapoint my mum whom held high hopes for me...
Work hard now and clear your doubts with your teacher :)
Also practice more.
To be blunt about it, good tuition is the most effective way to improve dramatically in a short period of time. Of course, the best tuition in the world is totally useless, if you don't put in the diligence and effort required on your own part.
And because tuition is not always feasible (eg. due to financial constraints), the next best thing is to form study groups with (reliable and committed) friends, and to (perhaps as a study group) consult your teachers for guidance on specific questions.
get some past exam papers with solution for addmaths. Try to practise without looking at solution. Look and try to understand solution when your answer is wrong . See with your teacher when you do not understand. Need lot of practise . Time yourself when doing past exam paper.
Get a friend who is good in that subject to tutor you!
MOre time studyinging with friends that are of a good help~
Will benifit you ^^
Topical based mastery.
Master a topic before moving on to the next. Start from the stuffs you learned in Sec 3, and slowly move on to the more current ones. If you encounter a difficult question or a concept that you need clarification, post back here so that forumers can give you some inputs.
I also need a lot of help...Its already September and I am still not fully prepared or confident for O Levels yet, and by looking at my prelim results, i got L1R5 of more than 20, without even getting a single distinction for any subjects. I also have tuition, but ironically, the subjects that I have tuition for turns out to be the subjects that I have the worst grades. My classmates will often mock me for my horrendous results, and when I'm comparing with them, I feel so inferior and I really want to prove to them I can be as good but it always does not work out for me....
see my reply on the other thread, practice make perfect
practicing right thing tho' = clarify doubts with teachers immediately

to TS: Try to improve until everything is A2, do not think that it is impossible, it is way possible. If you can even A1 but an A2 is decent enough , 12 points which can safely go to many jcs.
Chem practice TYS at least 4 rounds every paper
SS as per normal, spot 3 out of 5 themes
A and E maths, practice all the questions in your textbooks at least once
Econs, I really pity you that you are taking such a content heavy subject in o levels, I seen the syllabus and as a JC H2 econs student, that seems quite a lot for a subject in O level as the syllabus of O level should be at least 20 times easier than A levels but for your econs, it is only 15 times easier, this goes for other electives. Understand concepts, like price elascity of demand is the percentage change in quantity (note it is quantity) demanded with respect to a percentage change in price, (certis parabus!!!!!). And please give examples, like price inelastic is rice (wide definition of good and small percentage of income spent) etc...
Formulae will help in essays also. CSQ , if there is, is to answer question based on sources.
HCL and English is standard testing, but for chinese I will say that to impress is for you to write grammatically correct chinese for 8 sides and sound logic will give you at least 50 /70 for essays.
Physics practice again and definitions please get this correct
Jiayou for O levels
Speaking from past experience of O levels, A1s for all subjects except EL
For a start, do the following
Step 1: Make a goal
What are your desired results? Aim for that.
Step 2: Plan to reach your goal
What are the steps you have decided to take to improve your grades ASAP?
Whining at this forum is a first baby step, but you will need to list down the steps you need to take.
Plans include
1) Your strategy for L1R5. There isn't sufficient time, so you might want to just concentrate on 6 subjects (English included)
2) Your study schedule. You need to plan your time efficiently to tackle the huge amount of required information. You need a large amount of discipline to pull this through, so you might want to ask your parents to help supervise you.
PM me if you need a mentor to supervise and push you through.
Thanks everyone for trying to help me, and yes although there is a very short period of time left till the all consuming O's, I will heed your suggestions and luckily my teachers also provide intensive remedial and night study programmes for us. Haha hope I can get a very good score for O Levels and prove those that doubt me wrong.
its never too late, i assure you.
its very common that u dont study at all until after getting a heart attack by looking at ur prelim results. there still is time, use it wisely, the guys above me have said everything u need. believe in yourselves, keep ur chin up, study hard, nothing will go wrong.
besides, prelims are way harder than o levels.
(i just completed Os last year)
