Whats the diff between central processing unit and graphic processing unit?
Central Processing Unit
Graphics Processing Unit
CPU is for processing everything in your computer, mounted on your motherboard.
GPU is for image processing, typically mounted on your graphics card.
CPU can do the job of GPU if required, but having a GPU saves your CPU from doing it and hence, your CPU can work on other jobs.

Yes, what differences are there in terms of transistors and cores?
No idea.
I would have thought there isn't much difference in their designs, apart from being assigned different functions.
