I probably have a different account of the O-Levels compared to many, but I have some questions I probably need answered.
The school I am in now offers an Integrated Programme curriculum, which would fast-track me to Junior College education. The only drawback is that you have to pass the O-Levels for Higher Chinese in order to not take Higher Chinese in JC.
So yeah, I failed Higher Chinese O's, and I was wondering if I private-candidate O-Level Higher Chinese this year (and pass), would the JC I am in accept this qualification?
Also, I was told that a minimum of a passing grade in Higher Chinese O-Levels is mandatory for study in local universities. Is that true?
Thanks.
Are you sec 1???
1) There's no HCL in JC. Only what I call CLAO in MY time.
2) You need D7 for CLAO in MY time.
This post might not be helpful for you.
If in doubt please ask your teachers, thanks.
Reproduced a post I made on another forum, to a student who wants to do the JC route, but is not eligible this year because she failed English.
What is your poly course of choice? And your future Uni course and professional career of choice? I suggest that, should you be able to decide on a suitable choice, that allows you to align all 3 routes (ie. JC, Poly, Uni), that would be ideal.
For instance, say you wanna do Science (in Poly, in Uni, and for professional career), you could :
1) First (ie. now in 2013) go ahead and enter a suitable Science course (eg. Chemical Engineering, BioMedical, etc) in one of the Polys.
2) Concurrently and simultaneously register yourself as a private candidate (but you must be over 17 years old to do so) for A levels H2 Chem, H2 Phys, H2 Bio, H2 Math, and GP (no need for a silly JC contrasting subject nonsense). You can retake as a private candidate every year, until you get satisfactory results.
3) Apply for Uni using whichever certificate is better, with the other as supporting certificates. You may lack Project Work grades, but when you inform the Uni admin office that you didn't take PW because you were not in a JC, they may waive the PW requirement. Even if they don't, PW is only a small component of the Uni Admission Score. Excellent A level results can more than compensate for the PW component.
This plan is workable, but (most workable) ideally when your Poly course and your A level subjects are the same or at least overlap significantly. For instance, "Chem Engineering" in the poly, is 33% H2 Chem, 33% H2 Phys, 33% H2 Math. So studying for one path = studying for the other.
Hey. I just made the cut for JC which is 20 points for L1R5. Does this mean my chances for getting in Innova or Yishun JC low? (for both arts and science course)
which JC ranked last now ah?

Depends. you can try to apply. Should have no problem for YJC.
What of Innova? I know friends who are 13 pointers and are applying for IJC because of it's near location to their homes. Just afraid all these 13-16 pointers get in, thus leaving no place for me.
i got my o level reults on the 10th of jan. My L1R5 after deduction of bonus points is 7. I am hoping to get into ACJC. However, the cut-off pt for the past few years have been 6. I am thinking of appealing if i do not get in through JAE. What are my chances of getting in? Also, does it help if i am from an afliated secondary school? (MGS-a lot of my seniors are in ACJC too). Thanks for the help:)

to kitten bell, you can try. But if you cant go in doesnt mean you are no good. your grades are already quite exceptional in my opinion. While a good sch will make u feel good, it is often the fact that how much effort you want to put in when you are studying that count the most.

Hi all, i am curious whether it is possible to do well for A levels if I were to go to a low-tier jc,since i am from a low-tier sec school(cut-off below 200) and i just made it into a low-tier jc.Not so sure about my odds against students from the top-tier HC/RI/VJ/NJ who will also be taking the A levels. This question has come to my mind after i didn't fare well for my O's while the sec schools with a higher psle(230) fare better and groom their students to score A's
can lah
look at MJC
I can only apply for pioneer/jurong jc.I am glad that i made an improvement since my PSLE as I managed to see students from sec schools of PSLE cut-off(220+)
some ppl 开 later in life than others mah

set ur heart and soul to it and i am sure you can do well. Many "low-tier" jc students make it to local Universities and i am sure you can. By the way, did you consider the polytechnic option?

you have something against MJC ah i realise?
i did but my first-second choices are JCs.Aiming for the prestigious medicine degree(may look into overseas if I fail here) I worked hard for my O levels, with passion to become a doctor, but only managed to get to a low-tier jc.
everyone takes the same As at the end of the day, i mean, year.
so it is still a fair game
the prob now is how the journey there would be
i think i can improve for my A levels again.I have to change strategy of studying from my O' levels and learn to balance my CCA/studies as Jc route is short(MT exams, practical exams and PW all done by this year) Lessons start only at the mid of february, now i am using the time i have to prepare for GP and H2 maths.
if u take out all the hols and weekends and watever other non-school days, u have oni 1 in sch actually before the As
so a lot will depend on ur own study and revision
