Would someone please help to solve this but not use 'guess and check' way.
There were 20 questions in a quiz. For every correct answer 6 marks will be awarded. For every wrong answer 3 marks will be deducted. Jane answered all questions and scored 75 marks. How many questions did she answer correctly? Please show solution clearly. Many thanks
Total possible marks = 20x6 = 120
For each wrong answer, Jane loses the 6 points she could have gotten as well as 3 more points.
Total deduction per wrong answer = 3+6 = 9
Total marks deducted from wrong answers = 120-75 = 45
Number of wrong answers = 45/9 = 5
Total correct answers = 20-5 = 15
Thank you so much, it's so clear now.
here is another one, Mrs Tan bought some dresses for $480. She could have got a discount of 25% and then be able to buy 2 more of such dresses at the discounted price. How much did she pay for each dress? Thanks again.
