I bought a graphic calculator today for A level purpose but when I opened the instruction...@@ It is too complicated.
Anw, Can you tell me how to solve 4x4 matrice with TI 83
Help me. plz
Thank you
For example: 1 -1 1 -1
3 -2 -3 -8
It is a 2x4 matrices in my book. But when i enter this matrices in my calculator,it didn't give me a answer as well...
What happens
Hi,
1. Press "APPS".
2. Select "PlySmlt2".
3. Select "SIMULT EQN SOLVER".
4. Select 2 for "EQUATIONS", select 3 for "UNKNOWNS", press "GRAPH".
5. Enter the values in the matrix.
6. Using your values, we obtain, from GC, x = -6 + z, y = -5 + 6z, where z is a real number.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Wen Shih
When I pressed APPS there are only 2 options : "Finance" or " CBL/ CBR".... There is no PlySmlt2. ... I 'm using TI83 plus of Texas Instruments
Hi,
You need to download the apps from the Internet site then:
http://education.ti.com/en/asia/product-resources/singapore_apps/ti-84-plus-operating-system
Get a teacher from your school to help you with that.

TI 83 or TI 84
TI83 will not have the apps , do get a TI84 as it is the latest version and all JC notes uses it
Mine is TI 83 Plus.
Huh. They don't have that apps. OMG.I bought one yesterday. No way that my mother allow me to buy a new one
I do advise you to check your edition, is it TI 83 plus or TI 84 plus
a TI 84plus pocket SE is the norm GC for majority (except YJ?) of JCs, the O.S. should be 2.5.5 as you need all the features there to do a A level paper
I strongly advise you to buy or borrow one as it is imperative you have a GC that is up to date.
OK. I will ask my mom. Anw,if I reset my GC, will all the programme be deleted??

A reset will only revert it back to the original factory default settings.
Sell the TI 83 Plus to get some cash to help to buy the TI 84 PLUS pocket SE.
There is a faster, better and cheaper graphic calculator with colour display ie Casio FX CG 20 that the MOE might approve for use in H2 Maths in this year, so you might wait a little longer before you decide to go to buy the TI 84 PLUS pocket SE.
To see the difference between the two graphic calculators, please refer to my earlier post in the sgforums homework forum link
Ok. I will carefully consider your advice.
Anw, there is a function : y =(-x^2 -x +1)/( x^2). I think it can be drawn but curiously that the GC cannot sketch it. Why??

Use long division on -x^2 -x +1)/( x^2) first (recall the O level topic Partial Fraction) before you key the function into the graphic calculator to sketch the graph.

I turn it into -1 +(-x+1)/x^2 but still cannot sketch... Maybe I misunderstood your answer

You will need to find the partial fractions to get the function y = -1 -1/x +1/x^2.

Hi,
For the function y =(-x^2 -x +1)/( x^2), we can just simplify directly:
y = (-x^2)/(x^2) - x/(x^2) + 1/(x^2)
= -1 - (1/x) + 1/(x^2).
Note that the curve has asymptotes y = -1 and x = 0.
Thanks.

It is not a problem that I cannot sketch that graph but a problem that my calculator cannot sketch it.... Anything wrong with it or sth??
Ah...And I have a question. I made a program to solve quadratic equation but the result is fixed number. How can I perform the result in original form. For example.: x^2 =2 I want the result is sqrt 2
The new Casio graphic calculator fx cg 20 has solved the problem.
It can graph the function (-x^2 - x + 1) / x^2 without expressing it into partial fractions. In addition, the function can be keyed as a normal fraction form into fx cg 20 just like the other Casio calculator eg fx 96 sg plus
It can move the scale by pressing the up, down, right and left arrow keys and the graph will shift accordingly ie it is no longer like the TI 84 Plus whereby students are required to go to change the scale by guessing and graph it to have the idea of the whole graph.
The calculator can calculate in surd form too ie 2 sqrt 3 x 3 sqrt 5 = 6 sqrt 15
but casio gc banned in A level leh, so no choice,
The skill of using correct windows setting is implicit objective the examiners wanted to test

It is no longer necessary to test the students on the windows settings skill with the new generation of graphic calculators. There might be touch screen models later and the graph can be zoomed in and out easily like the IPad. :)
Wa so complicated.
My time no graphic calculator.
Not sure if it made life easier or tougher going by this thread.

Hi,
Such calculators are subjected to approval by SEAB. Also, they may not come cheap to students. Thanks.

Hi,
The new Casio FX CG 20 costs $180 (I bought it in a shop locally) and the Model TI 84 Plus SE pocket used by current H2 Maths students costs $158. The difference in price is $22 only.
Hope that the Casio distributor in Singapore will submit an application for the new Casio FX CG 20 to SEAB for approval as it will only cost the distributor two of this calculators and a fee of $481.50. It is to be noted that the current Casio graphic calculator fx 9860 slim is only valid for use for H2 Maths students till the end of this year 2013. If Casio does not have a new model graphic calculator at the beginning of next year 2014 approved by SEAB, there will not be a Casio graphic calculator for use for the H2 Maths students.
However, I do not have high hope that the model Casio FX CG 20 will be approved by SEAB but there is a high chance that the new TI 84 Plus C SE will be approved by SEAB probably in 2014.
Cheers

I think I bought my scientific calculator 12 years ago for <20 bucks, and it works without battery (ATYOR during exam), and in fact, is still working well even today.
It's seen me through all my mathematics in every exam for so long already.
