" hi guys, apologies if there are already similar threads around;
i've scoured through most of them but they were mostly a few years
back, and i'd like to seek more to-date opinions.
also hope that this is the
correct section!
i'm more or less sure of wanting to do english lit in uni and then becoming a teacher, but am not that confident of my results...(out tmr) touch wood but, exploring options just in case :/
firstly, may i ask if anyone was from SIM uni english lang and lit? i've checked the website but that course didn't state which school was offering the degree. does that mean there aren't any overseas unis involved in eng lit for SIM uni?
also, i know that MOE recognises SIM uni degrees, but do they actually prefer degrees from local uni alot more? my friend (whose mother works in MOE HQ) told me that NIE would rather take in grads with local degrees/NIE degrees over grads with a degree from SIM etc, is that true? do other public and private companies tend to favour local uni grads as well?
lastly, if say for example i get into social work/real estate (or another degree which doesn't need that good grades) at NUS and don't manage to get into lit, is it possible for me to switch my major halfway if i didn't meet the pre-requisites for lit in the first place? is the criteria for switching your major based on how well you performed in Alevels or other things?
apologies for the flood of questions!
thank you so much in advance all >< "
Employers prefer NUS/NTU/SMU degrees over SIM. You may not be able to switch faculty once in NUS. You may email NUS and check. Arts Faculty has stringent grades to get in.
There is not much demand for Lit teachers. Cohort dwindling over the past years. You may be asked to teach English, Social Studies, History or some funny subjects in schools.
Arts has stringent grades to get in?
If you are talking about switching major within faculty, that can be fairly easily arranged. Not between faculties.
u can chg fac during the appeal period

It is. The 3H1s are H1 content subject, GP or KI, and PW.
MT is not included?

Not usually (although there are some circumstances in which it could optionally be included, you can google the details).

Go ahead and apply for it now. If you get in, they'll reserve a place for you in 2015 (they do this for all Singaporean male applicants). If you don't get in, apply and apply again. Retake A levels if necessary.

okay, thank you
Originally posted by knt:I was just wondering whether the MOE has the actual marks of each paper that a candidate took. Anyone knows? Thanks!!
Yes they do. Cambridge sends the raw scores to MOE-SEAB, which assigns the grade to be awarded out based on a bell-curve.
