I would say sociology is interesting...but not particularly marketable as a degree. And sociology is not a discipline where pure hard work will give you good grades. You will have to think and apply and push the boundaries of what you have known.
And language skills do affect the learning process in the different degrees (if not all), which is why people who do badly for their GP have to be tested for their English abilities before entering.
