Im so disappointed in myself. I can't let my dreams shatter!

  Hi guys, I'm a sec 3 student studying in singapore. My ambition is to study in NUS Law. I heard that in order to get into Law, your grades must be excellent plus you must have outstanding Cca records and character, this it is a very competitive and hard faculty to get in. However, as I watch the past three years of my secondary school life dwindle by, I realised that I haven't achieved anything, while I see my other classmates who are excelling in their studies and holding various leadership positions like class chairman, president of a Cca, Vice President, treasurer, secretary, being a councilor etc. I feel so unaccomplished and I feel like a failure!:( At least they could have these leadership positions to back them up, while I have nothing. I can't understand how to get a leadership position, in my school, there are quite a lot of leadership positions that u can fulfill, but I'm not fulfilling anyone of them:( I really love English and the humanities, especially literature and history, therefore my interest in law. What should I do now?

  You know something....let me tell you this. There are many students who do very well in their academic studies and they seems to be very outstanding students. However, after their graduation from higher studies and they started to work..............many of them don't do very well like they did in the past in schools, when they come out into the real world.

  Being more active...

  Leadership post are not just passive roles...

   

  Perhaps you could voice out ur interest in holding various post like treasurer etc to your various CCA teacher-in-charge...

  Wat sort of CCA are u in? sports? uniform groups?

  You don't have to hold that leadership position to proof to yourself that you are worthy. Just get active in E.C.A. like in sports, air-rifle club, judo club, uniform groups etc, be proactive about it and do your best. When you show enthusiasm in what you do.....other people in your school will know you and recognize you. Recognition and Acknowledgement from the others about you will come automatically when you show your best in what you do. You will be famous in your school when that happens. These attitude and principle will help you in your real life later.

  I'm in clubs and societies, Infocomm club:) there are about 10 leadership positions for the sec 3s, because at sec3 then u get to lead the Cca. Next year o levels so have to step down. There's 1 president, 3 Vice President, 1 treasurer 1 secretary, 1 discipline head,2 level coordinators, 1 in charge of promoting the Infocomm club ( which I expressed interest to the seniors that I wanted this during the leadership interview but didn't get:( ) almost all the sec 3s get a chance for a position except for the few "losers" like me:( thre are about 15 people in sec 3 from Infocomm.

  That is not important. Just do you best and be proactive in your school. Perhaps being a school prefect will get you to somewhere.....all the students will know you.

  Just go and get some job and work experience especially during your internship or school holiday, it will make your resume look good. Unless you want to get "bonus" point in applying to study in higher insitution like university, nowsadays employers hardly concerned about your grade and CCA etc as the first priority to hire you.. They just want to know if you have the knowledge and experence they want.

  @M my name I went for an internship recently during the June hols at a small humble company in raffles place, it was a firm helping large companies find the right people for the jobs in that large company, the boss of the firm told me that they won't look at my internship record in the future when I apply for jobs because they say its trivial.... Sigh I don't really know what now

  You're welcome floraet. What is important is that you be yourself and do your best. The leadership within you will start to show soon once you thinking positively and be proactive. You may not know it but others will see it. Good Luck.
