Will be getting a DSLR. I m being split between 2 brands. canon and nikkon.
I heard good reviews about the D5000 with it being mid of D60- D90.
I would get a Canon. Hahaha.
Reason being,
Many photographers, are using Canon's than Nikon's. I bet its the quality that lies in Canon.
Correct me if I'm wrong..

AFAIK its the other way round.
I am a canon user both point and shoot and DSLR.
Oh ic.
I've heard alot of good things about Canon though..
But still,
the decision lies upon the user itself. Haha.
The best thing is to go and have a hands-on feel about the cameras that you have shortlisted.
YOu may like to visit www.dpreview.com or clubsnap.com for some comprehensive review. The 2 things I don't like about the D5000 is
1.the way the screen is pivoted. if u use a tripod, it gets in the way.It is just not articulated enough
2.Liveview is a tad slow compared to the rest of the same level cameras.
Other that that. I like the solid Nikon build and it takes stunning pictures & good noise control.
Canon are good as well but it feels like a toy , pics are not as accurate and the AF points are too closed apart.
Just make sure that whichever you choose, you will be happy with it for a long long time.
Happy Hunting.

I think it's the other way round. Reason I would get a Canon is because they are relatively good value for money being inexpensive compare to Nik and I would look real cool with those white L lenses. BUt when it comes to scientific , military or medical use, it's Nikon, Olympus and Zeiss. Either way, you cannot go wrong.
Oh, now I get it..
But still, it depends on the user itself.. Some may prefer Canon, some may prefer Nikon..
Like what LeftHandSeat had suggested, maybe have a hands-on with both of the camera.. Then choose which suits you most..
I tried all the brands I could lay my hands on...and settled on the Canon EOS.
IMO, it's good value for $$, and it takes pretty decent pictures...
the eos1000d is good. except that its focusing system gets kinda confused sometimes. and that you cant use autofocus in live view mode.
Btw,
I'm confused.
Which EOS are you talking abt?
450D? 5D? Hahaha..
canon tends to dominate in the action field.
comparisons can go a far way but i think its a coca cola and pepsi argument. lol
they're both cameras...
go out and take pictures and you will see it doesn't matter which is which is what..

If you were talking about the XXXD series, I'd say you have a point. On the other hand, from the looks of it I doubt you've tried out either the XXD series or the 5Ds.

Say what? This Superbug was clocking 200+ knots when I took this shot:
Doesn't look like the AF had any difficulty there (note that this is a 100% crop from a 15.1 MP sensor). Federer wasn't moving too slowly when I took this shot either:
Then there's the other challenge for autofocus - low-light conditions:
Yeah, I've heard a lot of fairy tales too. It's just that I choose to find things out firsthand.
Frankly, if you do a level-by-level comparison, there's bugger-all differencebetween what Nikon and Canon are offering these days - any advantage won't last for more than the next product cycle.
When I bought my 400D years ago, I also looked at the Nikon D70 but its low-light performance couldn't stack up. These days the Nikons have caught up in this department, but I'm sticking with Canon because I don't want to swap over all of my lenses and accessories. Besides, I love my L lenses!

can wad..
ter is a * icon on ur top right hand, just press tat button.
its will auto focus for u..
using live view definitely has its lag.
Except for macro shots, Live View's a waste anyway.

ya lor..
defeat the purpose of SLR.
Besides, when you've got a gripped 50D and 70-200 2.8, you don't want to be holding it out so that you can see the LCD.
I see the Superbug is armed with Sidewinders, AMRAAM and iron bombs.
That's a damn nice pic you have.
And yah...I don't even recall using live view at all on my camera.
does olympus or sony come close against canon?
I haven't taken a close look at either brand, but from what I've seen from the shootouts in magazines, Canon and Nikon come out on top most consistently.
