And yah, jade is very subjective. Some can be cheap, some can be terribly expensive for a fake stone.
Do you live near market centrals? Do walk thru during the mornings, you might find some really old ladies setting up a floor stall and selling jade stuffs they purchased long time ago in China.
Or Taka I see from someone's attachment is a good choice.
The most places to find jades is either Chinatown or Fu Lu Shou Building area (Bugis). But cannot garantee they are real or cheap.
I had one, broke it when I landed my wrist heavily on something. The bangle broke several hours later, and landed on a shop wooden floor loudly. The sound shocked a lot of people around me. And I was advised that it probably broked because it shielded me from some disaster.
Those neighbourhood jewellery shops can trust? Wah lau, I don't know her size... mati liao
Mom's birthday's 2 days from now.. omfg..

Try grab your mothers wrist with your plam and fingers encircling her lah. Maybe pretending to move her out of the way when you need to get to your toothbrush or a cup to drink water lah.
Then use the feeling of the palm to see whether got a jade ring that can be about 1/2 inch wider then how you encircled your mom's wrist.
If you not sure of neighbourhood jewellery shops, then Taka is your best bet lor.
I see how, me also want to check out Taka.
Maybe its time I wear jade bangles again. Since the right wrist was broken, a jade bangle on that wrist will make me more careful with using that hand.
But I see my friend got from her godfather a jade bangle. Me think maybe others might think I am copying her. (U guys dont make joke. This godfather is got pray to god with incence & the godmother also acknowledge this goddaughter one.)

Do the $20 wan lah.
The rest, treat your mother to a good meal, maybe give her a angbao with the remainder of the $$$.
The thing about jade, is that your heart is in it. To let her have something, that protects and take care of her. And also for her to be reminded of you.

Jade bangles are very fragile. Chances are, if she does a lot of housework in the house, she cant wear it as often.
And its said, that jade turns greener the longer the wearer wears it, making it look beautiful. And mine did indeed looks greener since I ever wore it.
So the idea about jade is. It does not matter if its looks whitish or cheap. The wearer can make the jade look beautiful.

I feel that if it's supposed to do something like protect the wearer from harm, then we should be more selective in choosing one of reasonably good quality...
I've always been under the impression that a jade item should be chosen personally by the wearer. There's this... feel and understanding between soon-to-be owner and object.
/shrugs
I could be wrong.
Errm....protecting from harm?
Maybe its just me, so correct me if I am wrong.
The protect from harm part, I think its about finding a stone with less impurities or already existing crack lines. Be it the veins of the stone or actual breaks. Cos the breaks signifies that it help you ward off a disaster.
Having it beautiful is a different idea.
Me also only thinking from memory about this. So not sure whether I really am old enough to sprout this nonsense.

That too, is sometimes how people feel about the stones....aka the crystals. Like those pink crystals or purple crystals stone caves thingies you find at Fu Lu Shou Building.
Something to do with fengshui and dunno what else, cos stones are minerals.....
